About

A horn, a room,
and a long conversation.

Marcus Caldwell grew up in a house full of records. His father was a barber who treated Coltrane's Crescent like scripture; his mother kept Sarah Vaughan on every Sunday morning. By twelve he had a hand-me-down alto, by sixteen a tenor, by twenty a place at the New School.

After a decade as a sideman across New York, New Orleans, and Lisbon, he stepped forward as a leader in 2022 with Hours Without a Clock — an EP that critics called "patient, romantic, and quietly defiant." His full-length debut, Brass & Shadow, arrives this year.

Marcus performs with a rotating quartet of close collaborators and currently holds a monthly residency at a small room in Bed-Stuy that holds exactly forty-eight people.
